Page B-5Detroit Public Schools is always on the lookout for dedicated staff, family and community members to serve as ambassadors for the district. DPS kicked off its Get Fit for DPS Ambassador Campaign on Tuesday, June 23 at the Fisher Building.

More than 100 staff members from a variety of central office departments and schools signed up during the high-intensity event! Participants who signed up to be a DPS Ambassador enjoyed free chair massages, received a free DPS Ambassador t-shirt and pedometers sponsored by HAP and giveaways including a free 30-day fitness membership, a free 10-day Yoga try-out, Zumba demonstrations by Fitness Works and much more!

By becoming a DPS Ambassador volunteers are taking on a critical role in the district’s student enrollment and retention activates. DPS Ambassadors will serve as a positive voice on behalf of the District, participating in activities such as enrollment events, church Sunday speaking opportunities, and passing out materials at retention and recruitment events.

Ambassadors volunteer their time based on their schedules, signing up for blocks of time. District events can span anywhere from 2-3 hours. Volunteers can sign up for as many events as they choose that fit with their schedules! DPS will provide all volunteers with a short training session, a training manual and safety tips.

Over the last two years, DPS changed history by stopping historic enrollment losses. That progress was in large part due to the efforts of DPS staff and volunteers! According to DPS Emergency Manager Darnell Earley, “the District’s individual and collective ef-forts all have a specific goal: an efficient and effective education delivery system that provides the highest quality education outcomes for all students in every neighborhood.”
