Don Bosco Hall and the Detroit Tigers Foundation host 12th Annual Willie Horton’s Batting for Kids at Comerica Park, July 1

Don Bosco Hall and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, today announced that registration for the 12th Annual Willie Horton’s Batting for Kids is now open. The baseball challenge will be held 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday, July 1 at Comerica Park. More than 450 urban and suburban children ages 5 – 15 will have the opportunity to compete in a baseball competition that includes base running, hitting and throwing. Additionally, the children will participate in baseball demonstration clinics.
“Batting for Kids is a fantastic day of fun, providing kids with the opportunity to learn and practice the fundamentals of baseball and enjoy an active day outdoors,” said Charles D. Small, president and CEO of Don Bosco Hall. “It is such a joy to see kids of all ages participating in America’s favorite pastime.”
Registration is $25 per child with limited space available. The deadline to register is Sunday, June 30. Event proceeds will benefit Don Bosco Hall, a 60-year-old human service agency that provides social service programs to enhance the lives of local youth and their families.
The registration fee includes participation in the baseball competition, an event T-shirt, a souvenir baseball glove, a continental breakfast provided by Panerea Bread and lunch provided by Ballpark Brands and Pepsi. The top boy and girl in each age division will be invited back to Comerica Park to be recognized in a Tigers pre-game ceremony on July 30, where they will be awarded individual trophies. The Tigers take on the Washington Nationals that evening at 7:08 p.m.
“The Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Tigers Foundation are proud to partner with Don Bosco Hall for the 12th Annual Willie Horton’s Batting For Kids,” said Jordan Field, Director of the Detroit Tigers Foundation. “We look forward to sharing our passion for baseball with the kids as they enjoy a fun-filled day at Comerica Park.”
