Kick off a safe and healthy summer at the Safe Summer Youth Jam and Family Health Fair, presented by the Detroit Recreation Department, on Thursday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Butzel Family Center, 7737 Kercheval. Adult and senior registration is at 10 a.m. Senior health screenings are from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Youth registration begins at 1 p.m. Youth activities are from 2-5 p.m.
The health fair will offer adults of all ages the opportunity to take part in various health screenings and receive healthy lifestyle information. The health screenings, which will include blood pressure, blood sugar and HIV/AIDS testing, will begin at 10 a.m. The family-oriented event will also include games, inflatables, arts-and-crafts, refreshments and prizes.
In addition, youth will have an opportunity to learn safety tips and sign a Safe Summer pledge card. By signing the pledge, youth promise to stay away from weapons, violence, drugs, and any illegal, unlawful and immoral situation; respect parents, elders, peers, and themselves; obey all laws; and avoid all arguments and fights. Signing the pledge card will also enter them in a raffle for a chance to win a new bike.
The event is co-sponsored by Adult Well-Being Services, A & H Contractors, Inc., Clear Channel, Coventry Cares, Cutter’s Bar & Grill, Detroit Medical Center, Matrix Medical Network, Molina Health Care, Rec Connect and the Wayne County Sheriff Department.
