On June 18, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) will open the 5th Annual Wayne County High School Art Exhibition. The exhibition features over 80 artworks by high school students from across Wayne County and will be on view in the Wayne and Joan Webber Education Wing at the DIA through Sunday, July 19, 2026.

The annual exhibition celebrates the artistic vision, creativity, and technical skills of high school students who attend public, charter, private, or home schools in Wayne County. This year’s exhibition will feature photography, painting, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and more from students across more than 25 schools.

We are excited to highlight the talents of young creators across Wayne County at our museum,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, Director of the Detroit Institute of Arts. “We hope this exhibition empowers and inspires the next generation of Wayne County artists, while reminding everyone how important it is to support educational opportunities in the arts.”

“This exhibition is proof of what our young people are capable of when given the opportunity to express themselves,” said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. “Each work on display tells a story—of creativity, of resilience, and of the remarkable communities across Wayne County. I’m proud of every student who participated, and I encourage even more schools to join us in celebrating the arts next year.”

A celebration for participating students, their families, and media will take place on June 30, with more information coming soon.

Following the closure of the DIA exhibition on July 19, a selection of student artworks will be moved to the Guardian Building in downtown Detroit for extended public viewing, where they will be on display from Aug. 5-24.
