Covenant House Michigan will accept a significant donation from the Walmart Foundation to fund its job
training program, “Moving Homeless Youth to Self-Sufficiency Through Job Training, Placement and Retention.”
Through the job training program, young adults create a resume, find and apply for jobs, practice
interviewing skills and learn about job retention and promotion. For a hands-on experience, young adults are enrolled in a paid internship program that requires they clean the two offsite Covenant House Academy campuses. This provides an opportunity for the individuals to manage real job expectations, while further building their resume.
Covenant House Michigan was established in 1997 to redirect young adults onto a path toward
meaningful and successful adulthood. The faith-based nonprofit organization provides hope to
homeless, runaway and at-risk youth ages 13-22 by providing shelter, educational and vocational
programs, and other support services to help overcome hurdles such as homelessness, unemployment,
inadequate education, violence, drugs and gangs.
