Churches, block clubs, community groups and businesses are registering for the 13TH annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day, which takes place on Saturday, August 3 in neighborhoods across Detroit.
Billed as Detroit’s Great Neighborhood Tradition, the day is an inspiring demonstration of community pride with more than 100 community service and improvement projects and celebratory events occurring throughout the city.
Last year, more than 200 events were held, and more than 2,200 activities have taken place in connection with Neighborhoods Day since it began in 2007.
This year, hundreds of organizations and thousands of volunteers will participate in events stretching from the riverfront to Eight Mile Road.
The annual Neighborhoods Day showcases the pride and spirit of neighborhoods and forges relationships that can help improve the quality of life for city residents going forward.
“Neighborhoods Day has become an iconic event that all Detroiters can take pride in,” said Luther Keith, ARISE Detroit! executive director. “The day represents the best of Detroit. People in virtually every neighborhood from all backgrounds coming together to work, collaborate and celebrate.”

In exchange for a $50 registration fee, groups will receive a custom-made banner promoting their event, t-shirts, hardware store vouchers to purchase supplies for cleanup and beautification projects, volunteer recruitment assistance, and promotion of their Neighborhoods Day events. The registration deadline is July 15.
As in years past, community groups, block clubs and churches will host activities such as neighborhood cleanups, new housing construction and rehabs, health fairs, free health screenings, parades, anti-crime events, community service projects, youth concerts, back to school events, and volunteer sign-ups for community programs.
Community groups and organizations planning similar events in August – not just on August 3 — can also have their activities promoted and marketed as part of the Neighborhoods Day observance for the cost of registration.
