BCBSM and Detroit Lions Announce 2021 #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Winner

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) recently announced the winner of the seventh annual #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes: 14-year-old LaNya King from Detroit. King will ride on Blue Cross’s America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float and host her family at Ford Field as the Detroit Lions take on the Chicago Bears. The sweepstakes highlights children’s health and asks families to share how they get active for 60 minutes on Thanksgiving Day.

King’s #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes prize package includes participation in the Thanksgiving parade down Woodward Avenue, ten club level seats at Ford Field along with a complete Thanksgiving dinner, and a custom jersey and commemorative football. Over 1,640 kids entered this year’s sweepstakes.

“Congratulations to LaNya and her family for winning this year’s Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes,” said Andrew Hetzel, vice president of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “LaNya’s plans of playing football in the backyard on Thanksgiving will be different this year as she will instead watch the Annual Thanksgiving Classic at Ford Field. She is an outstanding example of our #MIKidsCan program, which is committed to improving children’s health and well-being. Thank you to our partner, the Detroit Lions,
and its commitment to providing this incredible Thanksgiving experience for LaNya and her family.”

“We’d like to thank Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Lions for this amazing opportunity for LaNya and our family,” The King-Dew family said. “LaNya is a role model for her family when it comes to her commitment to physical activity and proper nutrition through volleyball. We’re beyond excited for her and can’t wait to celebrate on Thanksgiving.”

The #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes supports Blue Cross’ ongoing commitment to children’s health through its #MIKidsCan campaign and partnership with the Detroit Lions’ Play 60 program – initiatives focused on encouraging kids to adopt healthy habits and get active for at least 60 minutes every day.

Over the last 17 years, Blue Cross has given more than $10.7 million in support of kids’ health and wellness initiatives across the state, reaching almost 469,000 children in more than 1,100 schools.
