Starting March 9th, history, art, and culture come with no price tag at The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, thanks to a new partnership with Bank of America that invites the entire community to experience the museum for free during its popular Second Sundays program. From March through June 2025, all visitors, no matter their bank, can explore the museum’s powerful exhibits and special programs at no cost on the second Sunday of each month.

As part of the sponsorship, guests of all ages whether they are Bank of America customers or not can enjoy free entry on March 9, April 11, May 11, and June 8. In addition to the museum’s regular exhibits, these days will feature special programming, including cultural performances, educational workshops, and family-friendly activities designed to enhance the visitor experience.

Ed Siaje, President of Bank of America Detroit, highlighted Bank of America believes that investing in the arts helps foster cultural understanding and strengthens the communities we serve.

“Our collaboration with The Wright Museum allows us to expand access to this invaluable cultural resource, ensuring that everyone in metro Detroit has the opportunity to engage with African American history, art, and culture,” Siaje said.

Founded in 1965, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History stands as one of the nation’s most important institutions dedicated to preserving and celebrating African American heritage. Located in Detroit’s Cultural Center, the museum is home to over 35,000 artifacts, along with interactive exhibits and educational programming that highlight the resilience, creativity, and contributions of African Americans throughout history.

The partnership with Bank of America aligns with The Wright Museum’s ongoing efforts to break down barriers and create welcoming spaces for all visitors.

Bank of America’s support for The Wright Museum builds on its broader commitment to cultural institutions. For more than 25 years, the bank’s Museums on Us® program has provided its cardholders with free general admission to more than 225 museums and cultural sites across the country. Participating metro Detroit institutions include The Henry Ford, Michigan Science Center, Motown Museum, Arab American National Museum, and The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Through initiatives like Museums on Us® and partnerships like Second Sundays, Bank of America aims to promote cultural equity by making world-class cultural experiences available to a wider and more diverse audience.

In addition to free admission, visitors can expect special performances, interactive workshops, and family-friendly educational programming designed to complement the museum’s powerful exhibitions.

Neil A. Barclay, President and CEO of The Wright Museum, emphasized that collaborating with Bank of America to offer free Second Sundays enhances accessibility for the Detroit community.

“By removing financial obstacles, we open the doors wider for individuals and families to experience our exhibitions, participate in our programs, and deepen their understanding of African American history.”

The Museums on Us program offers Bank of America, Merrill, and Bank of America Private Bank credit or debit cardholders free general admission to participating institutions during the first full weekend of every month. This offer is available exclusively to the individual cardholder and cannot be transferred or combined with other promotions.
