The city is buzzing as Detroit’s legendary Baker’s Keyboard Lounge has officially reopened its doors following a 30-day closure to complete Phase I renovations, welcoming enthusiastic patrons, jazz lovers, and visitors from across the country back to one of America’s most historic jazz venues.
The iconic Detroit landmark recently completed a series of improvements designed to enhance the guest experience while preserving the club’s rich legacy. Renovations included a new roof, updates to the women’s restroom facilities, refreshed furnishings, and the introduction of an exciting new menu that has already generated rave reviews from guests during reopening weekend.
Since reopening, Baker’s has experienced tremendous support from longtime patrons, first-time visitors, and jazz enthusiasts traveling from throughout the United States to experience the return of Detroit’s legendary jazz institution.
“This reopening is about much more than renovations,” said Co-Owner Jacquelyn Vaughn Whittaker. “It is about preserving a cultural treasure, honoring the musicians who built this legacy, and ensuring that future generations can experience the magic of Baker’s. The response from the community has been overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful.”
As part of its long-term vision, Baker’s plans to announce the formation of the Baker’s Historic Foundation in the coming months. The foundation’s first major initiative will be the completion of the restoration of the club’s historic Steinway piano, an instrument that has been touched by generations of legendary performers throughout Baker’s storied history. The organization hopes to raise approximately $100,000 to complete the restoration and preservation project.
The reopening celebration continues throughout June, highlighted by a special Father’s Day celebration on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy live entertainment featuring The James Russell Project and vocalist Betty Pride, along with exceptional dining experiences including signature barbecue selections, lamb chops, cocktails, and other favorites from the new menu.
Baker’s Keyboard Lounge is now open Tuesday through Sunday and continues its tradition of presenting world-class jazz, exceptional cuisine, and an unforgettable Detroit cultural experience.
For decades, Baker’s Keyboard Lounge has welcomed legendary performers, jazz lovers, celebrities, and visitors from around the world while remaining a cornerstone of Detroit’s African American cultural, musical, and entertainment heritage.
