The Torch of Wisdom Foundation (TOWF) in partnership with the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club (DFABC) and National Conference of Artists Michigan (NCA) hosted an educational seminar and live art auction focused on creating generational wealth through art collection. The educational seminar took place on Sunday, September 22 at Northwest Activities Center. The seminar provided insight on how to purchase original art to build an art collection and serve as an opportunity to preview the art before the live auction. The live art auction was held the following week on Sunday, September 29 at the TOWF Plaza. This year’s auction featured work from over 30 Metro Detroit artists. Approximately 80% of the art presented during the auction was sold and sales doubled from the 2018 inaugural live auction.
The Torch of Wisdom Foundation and the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club recruited artists to submit entries for consideration for the live art auction. Artists were allowed to submit at least two entries. The entries received were juried by a selection committee to the final pieces that will be for sale during the live auction. An added element to this year’s live art auction was a gift donated by Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club members and Paramour Art owners, Karen and Ed Ogul that will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place artists as determined by the selection committee. Stephen and Jacque Lewis Kemp of Kemp Funeral Home and Cremation Services served as Honorary Chairpersons for the events.
