Bruce Simpson

Assistant Wayne County Executive, Wayne County

Bruce Simpson is a dedicated public servant and respected government leader currently serving as Assistant Wayne County Executive under Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. In this role, he helps oversee critical county operations and initiatives that impact more than 1.8 million Wayne County residents.

Prior to joining Wayne County, Simpson served for a decade (2015–2025) as the City of Detroit’s Ombudsman, becoming the youngest person to hold the position at age 32. During his tenure, he worked to improve government accountability and responsiveness while helping shape public policy, including legislative recommendations that contributed to key state legislation.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in History and a minor in Political Science, Simpson credits his strong work ethic and commitment to service to his father, Bruce Simpson Sr., and his grandmother, former Congresswoman Barbara-Rose Collins. Above all, he considers his greatest accomplishment to be raising his three children: Cameron, Caiden, and Cayla.
