The Michigan Chronicle is now accepting nominations for the Men of Excellence induction ceremony to be held on June 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel. Now in its eighth year, the Men of Excellence awards seeks to honor local, African American men who are visionaries in their given fields and inspire those around them to go beyond the norm and strive for the exceptional. They are entrepreneurs, community leaders, fathers, husbands, and inspirers. There is no shortage of negative publicity surrounding African American men, and here at the Michigan Chronicle, we know that there are more black men doing amazing things in business and the community than is being reported. If you know a man who has defied expectations and changed the status quo, then submit your nominations for the Men of Excellence award.

The men selected as this year’s Men of Excellence will join the ranks of positive African American men such as: Louis Green, President and CEO of the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Company, Reverend Wendell Anthony, President of the NAACP Detroit chapter, and Joe Dumars, President of Basketball Operations, Detroit Pistons. The fifty honorees are nominated by Michigan Chronicle readers on the basis of being an African-American male community leader, executive or business owner, proven success within his profession/industry, positive role model whose contributions encourage others and active in community service or organizational involvement.
Since 1936, the Michigan Chronicle has prided itself on being the “Voice of the Community”. It is Detroit’s oldest African American newspaper. Through our commitment to the community we seek to honor, inspire and educate our readers through various programs. In addition to the Men of Excellence awards celebration we also host the Women of Excellence, Pastors Salute, Salute First Ladies programs and the Pancakes and Politics series.
