YouthVille Detroit, 7375 Woodward Ave., will host an open casting call for a new radio and broadcast program that will be produced and aired in 2010. The audtions start at 9 a.m.
Local celebrity judges will be invited to cast the talent and crew for the new program. Once that is done, the new team will be in charge of naming their show, which will air on local television and radio stations throughout metro-Detroit as well as on the Youthville website. There will also be a print journalism component where students will write news stories and publish them locally as well as on the Web.
The program will feature stories on Detroit’s neighborhoods.
“Like many of our programs, this new broadcast and print journalism program will give the participants hands-on experience,” said Judy Jackson, president of YouthVille Detroit.
The program is being funded by the Detroit Regional News Hub in partnership with ARISE Detroit!, an organization that inspires active engagement, personal responsibility and hope by connecting people to opportunities and resources to transform the quality of life for all Detroiters, and Michigan’s Children, a statewide, independent voice for children and their families.
“The Detroit Regional News Hub is very pleased to be part of this program,” said Marge Sorge, executive director of the Detroit Regional News Hub. “There are many stories out there about the transformation of Detroit’s neighborhoods. What better way to get them out than to have the children who live there tell us.”
Vanessa Denha-Garmo, president of Denha Media and Communication will be the program’s executive producer.
YouthVille’s Digital Media Arts & Technology (DMAT) program includes a state of the art HD studio and facilities.
“These students will be using equipment used by professionals in the field,” said Michael Kuentz, media operations manager.
“YouthVille Detroit’s Digital Media Arts & Technology program is an excellent opportunity for youth and young adults to experience the latest in digital media, broadcasting and print journalism,” said Rita Clark, director of programs. “Our highly competitive courses expose youth to several hands-on experiences. As a youth development center, it is our goal to maximize every youth member’s potential by exposing them to unlimited opportunities.”
YouthVille will be accepting applications for crew, reporters, writers and talent for radio and television. All applicants need to bring a resumé. Anyone interested in on-camera talent should bring a non-returnable headshot or a DVD showing their talent to the casting call on Jan. 9.
YouthVille also provides tutoring, homework assistance and ACT/ College preparation to participating members.
