Senator Sarah Anthony

Sarah Anthony has always fought for opportunity for all Michiganders. She has made history multiple times, serving as mid-Michigan’s first Black woman elected to the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate. In 2023, she became the first Black woman to chair the powerful Appropriations Committee. Before serving in the Capitol, Anthony was the youngest Black woman to serve on a County Commission in the nation.

Anthony has earned a reputation as a pragmatic, effective legislator, having passed bills into law with substantial bipartisan and community support. Her legislative achievements include the passage of the CROWN Act, the Michigan Reconnect scholarship, and, of course, negotiating historic state budgets that center priorities such as health care, housing, childcare, and education.

Additionally, Sarah served as Director of the Michigan College Access Network, partnering with education, nonprofit, and business leaders to provide coordinated supports for students. She is a daughter, sister, aunt, and champion for her hometown of Lansing.
