Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties partner to promote community event website

commonwealthMore than one year after launching Commonwealth, an innovative website that promotes community events and resources, the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority (DWMHA) has joined forces with the Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) in expanding its participation and will include Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority (OCCMHA).
The site, which advertises opportunities for education, individual growth, and connection to community service programs, now includes participation of all three tri-county Community Mental Health agencies: DWMHA, MCCMH and OCCMHA.
Each organization belongs to the State public mental health system, serving qualifying individuals who have a developmental disability, mental illness, and substance use disorder, or children with serious emotional disturbance. Funding for these services is provided, in part, by the Department of Health and Human Services through Medicaid dollars.
“At Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority, we are extremely excited to be a part of this new collaboration that promotes community inclusion and provides opportunities for people to be involved in their environment” said Tom Watkins, President and CEO at DWMHA.
Commonwealth’s user-friendly format allows community members to browse events by a number of criteria, including county, organization or event name, date, location and cost. Its tremendous success is meeting a significant need, especially for families and individuals in search of local resources that enhance their ability to live, work, learn, and play in their communities.
“Improving the accessibility of event information is one more way to stay community-focused, empowering people with the tools to enrich their lives in the tri-county region,” according to MCCMH Executive Director John Kinch.
