Wayne County Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon and his deputies are in the holiday spirit! This weekend, they’ll celebrate the holiday season by giving parents and children a shopping spree of food and toys at the Meijer store on Grand River in Detroit.
“We had a fundraiser on Dec. 9 and came up with a significant sum of money,” said Sheriff Napoleon. WCSO staff volunteers will help the kids shop for their favorite gifts, while the parents will receive a $75 voucher for groceries.
Since 2009, the Sheriff has blanketed the county on Christmas Eve delivering gifts to families experiencing economic hardship. But in 2015, he and his team of deputized elves decided to start helping needy children get exactly what they wanted for the holiday. And this year, the effort has grown thanks to fundraising, generous donations from sponsors, and incredible help from our good friends at Meijer.
