The Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness will make access to essential healthcare and information on living a healthy lifestyle more accessible at its 10thAnnual Family Fun Fest. The free event, scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2015, provides Wayne County residents with a day of health screenings and fun games and activities for all ages.
The Family Fun Fest will take place at the Wayne County Health Center located at 33030 Van Born Road in Wayne, Michigan from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans is scheduled to be in attendance around noon to participate in the raffle.
“One of the major goals of the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness is to improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Wayne County Executive Evans. “With more than 50 partners, the Family Fun Fest is a valuable resource that provides important health services and awareness to Wayne County residents who need them the most. I’m encouraging anyone who can benefit from this great event to take advantage of this day of healthcare, information and fun.”
The day will consist of providing services that promote improving the health and well being for the community. Free health screenings provided at the Family Fun Fest will include:
- Childhood immunizations
- Oral dental consultations for children up to age 18
- Hearing and vision screening for children up to age 18
- Lead testing for children up to age 18
- Blood pressure screenings provided by Garden City Hospital
In addition to offering free health screenings, the Family Fun Fest will also offer information focused on:
- Learning and understanding your health profile through Body Mass Index screening.
- How to improve nutrition knowledge
- Information on WIC enrollment and services
- Information on the benefits of breastfeeding and free class registration
- Head start enrollment information
Students will also get a helping hand when it comes to getting back to school. 350 free backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to students age 5-17. The Gleaners food bank will also distribute 200 bags filled with food. Bicycles and safety helmets, a child car seat and an infant pack and play will be raffled for attendees at this year’s event.
“The goal of the Family Fun Fest is to provide a day of fun and recreation while inspiring individuals, families, organizations and communities to focus on the physical and mental health and wellness of themselves and others,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Director of the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness.
Wayne County’s new Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness was developed by the Evans Administration to enhance the County’s ability to deliver health and wellness services through a holistic application of services to seniors, veterans, youth, and families throughout the County.
