Wayne County executive’s reorganization plan unanimously approved by Wayne County Commission

Reorg plan voteThe approval saves the County’s General Fund $3 Million Annually
Today, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans’ Executive Branch Reorganization Plan was unanimously approved by the Wayne County Commission.  The Plan, which was required to be submitted to Wayne County Commission within 90 days after the start of Mr. Evans’ administration, provides a new approach to deliver County services.
“I am very pleased that the Commission approved this Reorganization Plan,” said Wayne County Executive Warren Evans.  “My team and I invested a great deal of time and thought into how the County should best serve our residents and businesses.    It represents the “new Wayne County” – how we need to work to provide services more efficiently and effectively for residents and businesses to live and grow in Wayne County.  I appreciate the Commissioners vote of approval and I look forward to continuing to work with them to move the County forward,” Evans added.
Created in the Plan is the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness.  The new department consolidates the Department of Children and Family Services,, Department of Health and Human Services, the Division of Community Development, and the Division of Veterans Services.  The new Department enhances the County’s ability to deliver health and wellness services through a holistic application of services to seniors, veterans, youth, and families throughout the County.  In addition, the department will concentrate on community development to preserve and enhance existing neighborhoods and community resources within the County.
Also outlined in the Plan is the abolishment of the Department of Economic Development Growth Engine (EDGE).  Responsbilities of the former department will be transferred to the Wayne County Economic Development Corporation.  The new structure will better enable the County to coordinate its economic development activity and suport business and local community development needs, while reducing cost to the general fund.
This Plan continues the commitment of the Evans Administration to restore the County’s financial stability while providing services that enhance the quality of life for residents.
