Health care services will now be accessible to all students and employees of Wayne County Community College District due to the new partnership with non-profit Institute for Population Health.
The opening of the clinics will be celebrated today at 11:30 a.m. with a celebratory luncheon at the Northwest Campus’ Larry K. Lewis Educational Center located at 8200 West Outer Drive in Detroit.
“Having access to whole body health care is important to ensuring that our students and staff can reach their full potential,” said WCCCD Chancellor Curtis L. Ivery.
Wayne County Community College District is hoping that the partnership and new resource will aid health and well-being in support of personal and academic success.
“This initiative allows us to better serve the entire college community as we strive to provide students and staff with access to high quality affordable health care,” said President and CEO of the Institute for Population Health Loretta V. Bush.
IPH will provide health care services to all currently enrolled WCCCD students and all WCCCD employees at IPH staffed health care clinics located at the Downtown, Eastern and Northwest Campus sites Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended times until 7 p.m. for specific student needs.
“We are thrilled to work with IPH to provide our students and team the health services that they need to ensure their wellness. It can also help to begin a tradition of healthy behaviors for our students, staff and their families,” said Ivery.
WCCCD and IPH hope to expand the clinics to WCCCD’s three remaining campus sites by June 2016.
All major insurances will be accepted at the Campus Health Centers and representatives assisting with Healthy Michigan Plan sign up will be available for the uninsured.
Health care professionals will be on site during opening day to offer vaccinations to participating students and employees.
Services available at the Campus Health Centers will include but are not limited to first aid, chronic illness management, and referrals to outside agencies, family planning services; as well as, counseling and referrals for mental health and nutrition, immunizations and sports clearances.
“We hope that by assisting students in receiving health care, they can also influence their friends and family members to do the same and seek our services at one of our primary care centers on 9053 Woodward and 19830 James Couzens,” said Bush.
