Wayne County Airport welcomes new member to Public Affairs Team

Erica Donerson Headshot (2)Former television news anchor and energy company spokesperson Erica Donerson has been hired as the new media relations manager for Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) effective Jan. 4.
Donerson is responsible for day-to-day media relations and communications activities for the Airport Authority, which operates Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports. In her role, Donerson will serve as a spokesperson and assist with the airports’ strategic communications planning and initiatives.
“Erica’s experience as a television news anchor and reporter, as well as her work in public relations, is a combination that will serve WCAA well,” said CEO Thomas Naughton. “As a Metro Detroit native, Erica already understands the important role Detroit Metro and Willow Run play in our region’s development and growth, as well as the airports’ impact around the globe. She will use her skills to help us tell those stories and many more across multiple platforms and to a variety of audiences.”
Donerson is an Emmy-nominated journalist who began her career as a general assignment reporter for WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn. She later became an anchor/reporter for WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Mich. After transitioning to the public relations field, Donerson served as communications supervisor for the Pontiac School District. Most recently, she was a senior specialist in DTE Energy’s Media Relations Department.
Donerson holds a Master’s in Public Relations from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, with a minor in political science, from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She is a member of the national Executive Board of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Public Relations Society of America, the National Association of Black Journalists and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
