Wayne County executive candidate and former governor fundraise for breast cancer awareness
Warren C. Evans, former Wayne County sheriff and candidate for Wayne County executive, and Jennifer Granholm, former governor of Michigan, came together on Saturday, October 11, 2014 to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
The two began their day at the annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides walk in downtown Detroit by leading a team of supporters who collectively raised $1,375. Throughout the walk, Evans and Granholm met a myriad of breast cancer survivors and caretakers who they acknowledged for their strength and bravery.
“It was a privilege to meet so many courageous women in this county who have fought breast cancer,” said Evans. “Walking alongside them to raise money for this disease is inspiring and shows how important it is that we all get involved in the fight against breast cancer.”
Their efforts to support breast cancer continued later that evening with a fundraising event where 100 percent of the proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society. During the event, the Warren C. Evans 2014 staff honored two breast cancer survivors from Wayne County.
“It says something about a person who will use a fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer and not his own campaign,” said Granholm, “I am so grateful that the Warren C. Evans campaign gave me the opportunity to return to Michigan and be a part of such a good cause.”
The host committee for the event included Debbie Dingell; Kym Worthy, Wayne County prosecutor; Maureen Miller Brosnan, president of Livonia City Council; and Susan A. Dabaja, president of Dearborn City Council.
