Team, coaches and school administrators invited to Guardian Building to be congratulated for State Championship
Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans today celebrated the 2015 season accomplishments of the Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. High School football team. The Crusaders finished with an undefeated 14-0 record, a City championship victory over rival Cass Tech and Division 2 State championship thanks to a last second Hail Mary touchdown pass.
After congratulating the team on a great season, the County Executive reminded the team that the same personality traits necessary for them to be successful on the gridiron, would ultimately help them achieve success in the classroom and life after graduating from high school.
“The journey to winning a championship is a lot like life and to succeed, you will have to display dedication, determination, resilience and an unrelenting desire to succeed,” said County Executive Evans. “Life is full of challenges, and just like the State Championship game when you had to come from behind, success is often achieved when you remain focused on your goal rather than the obstacles that lie ahead.”
The County Executive congratulated and shook hands with each player, presented the team with a proclamation and took a group photo with the team, coaching staff and school administrators.
