Despite a career-high in passing yards (383) for Michigan Wolverines QB Cade McNamara, the Michigan State Spartans come back from being down 16 points in the second half to stay undefeated and hand Michigan its first loss of the season. Not to be underdone, Spartan RB Kenneth Walker had his career day rushing for five touchdowns and 197 yards on the ground.
Michigan seemed to have control of the game early on, leading 10-0 after the first quarter and eventually building a 23-14 lead at the half. But Michigan State never gave up scoring 15 points in the 4th quarter behind 58 and 23-yard touchdown runs from Walker. The transfer back was simply marvelous in his first experience in the big in-state rivalry game. It does not surprise his performance in this game, and so far, this season has his name in many Heisman trophy conversations.
The win put the Spartans on top of the B1G Conference with an 8-0 record and Mel Tucker becomes the first Michigan State Coach to start 2-0 vs. Michigan in his career. Michigan State will look to stay unbeaten as they host Purdue next week in East Lansing and continue their run for a B1G Championship and National Championship Playoff birth. On the other hand, Michigan will look to regroup as they host Indiana next week in Ann Arbor.
