Throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Verizon Wireless customers who purchase the brand-new Nokia 2705 Shade online can use and help increase domestic violence awareness at the same time. Customers who buy the Nokia Shade with a camera at verizonwireless.com will receive a free picture frame phone lanyard and a Purple Xpress-on faceplate, while supplies last.
The Nokia Shade is the first phone to have #HOPE pre-programmed in the contact list and wallpaper highlighting HopeLine, Verizon Wireless’ phone recycling and reuse program, pre-loaded in the phone.
Customers who dial #HOPE (#4673) from the Nokia Shade or from any Verizon Wireless phone are automatically connected to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, where they can get information or help with domestic violence situations or questions. The hotline is a confidential source for information or referrals to local resources for assistance, and can also be reached by dialing (800) 799-SAFE.
“Over the past year, the Hotline received more than 1,000 calls through #HOPE, so it’s clear that many victims are relying on wireless technology and #HOPE from Verizon Wireless as a vital safety link for them and their families,” said Sheryl Cates, CEO of the National Domestic Violence Hotline. “We are happy to see Verizon Wireless and Nokia take the next step and pre-program #HOPE into the Nokia Shade device. This quick and easy access to the Hotline and our advocates will make it even easier for victims to find the resources they need for safety and independence.”
Customers purchasing a new phone can donate old phones year-round to Hope- Line, Verizon Wireless’ exclusive phone recycling and reuse program. Proceeds from HopeLine are used to provide wireless phones to victims of domestic violence and cash grants to non-profit advocacy organizations that promote domestic violence prevention.
No-longer-used phones can be dropped off at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store or mailed using a postage-paid label available at www.verizonwireless.com/hopelinemailinglabel.
