Vanguard CDC gives 30 Low Income Families New Homes for the Holiday

Vanguard Community Development Corporation will cut the ribbon on 30 brand new homes on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, 11 am at 5840 Maxwell, on Detroit’s eastside (near Gratiot and Van Dyke) with a reception to follow at Kettering High School.   This new development in Detroit will provide homes for 30 low income families just in time for the holidays..

29 happy families moved in this past weekend, – the 30th and final family will get the keys to their brand new home during the press conference. Each family will also receive a food basket as a house warming gift, setting the table for a great Thanksgiving meal.

“In these tough economic times when there is no other housing development happening in Detroit, we are pleased to be able to provide homes for families in need so that they can enjoy them for the holidays,” said Bishop Edgar L. Vann, pastor Second Ebenezer Church and president and CEO, Vanguard CDC, the non-profit arm of Second Ebenezer. “Fostering economic growth and investing in the community is what Vanguard is all about.”

Maxwell Homes Development is a 30-unit, three and four bedroom Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Project located in the Kettering Neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. The project utilized Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP-1) Funds, a HUD program that provide grants for communities experiencing economic hardship.

The project was completed in conjunction with the City of Detroit, Jonesboro Corporation, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, NRP Group and S and G Development. Representatives from each of these organizations will be on hand to cut the ribbon. Kettering High School, the location for the reception is located at 6101 Van Dyke at I-94.
