e5742aabe62d447c5cca73e7c59ee67cA unique clothing line has launched in the Metro Detroit area that aims to show the beauty in being African American through high-quality fashion. The brand launched its online storefront in June of 2016, and will hold its official launch party this Saturday in downtown Detroit. The launch party will be held onJuly 23rd, 2016 10pm-2am at Club Bleu 1540 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226, portions of profits every year will be given to Hurley Medical Center NICU in Flint, MI.

“Terrence Christopher is a brand that is about loving yourself and loving life.  We try to encourage people to strive for greatness while also promoting historical figures you may not have learned about in school.” Says the brand founder Terrence Shells. “ One day, I saw an African-American gentleman walk into the barber shop with a Marilyn Monroe T-Shirt on, and above the picture were the words “Beauty”. What was intriguing to me was that he had his three-year-old daughter with him, who had dark brown skin and curly hair and she was just as beautiful! I thought to myself that I hope that she knows she is just as beautiful in her skin.  And that is when the process began.”

The brand illustrates images of powerful and impactful African American idols like Dorothy Dandridge, Muhammad Ali, and Malcolm X; with phrases like “Life is Beautiful” “Life is the Greatest” “Life is Powerful” all testaments to the historical figures that are spotlighted.

Shells mission became clear when his life changed forever last summer;

“On August 20th, 2015, Laila (daughter of Terrence & Cherrell Shells) passed away from pneumonia and complications from prematurity. It was then that I realized my clothing line was about much more. We take life for granted. We never know which day will be our last or when we will see our loved ones for a final time. Loving life to the fullest extent, and cherishing each day as if it’s the only one we have is what we should strive for. My hope is that Terrence Christopher will inspire each person wearing it, or even those who take a small glance at the website, to love themselves exactly as they are, and live each day like there is no tomorrow.”
