Turkey Giveaway Begins Monday Morning in Detroit

Thanksgiving is a time of thankfulness, feasting, and family.

For those facing financial constraints and unable to purchase a turkey may be able to receive a free one this Monday morning on November 21 as thousands of them are prepared to be donated to families across Detroit, WXYZ reported.

“That’s right Detroiters supporting Detroiters,” Adell Kimbrough said in the article.

Prophetic World Group, PWG, a non-profit organization, is donating 1,000 turkeys this year for the holiday. Kimbrough is the president of PWG and said the 10-12-pound birds will make for a delicious feast and the kind gesture won’t be forgotten for Detroiters looking for a boost this season.

“There was one lady that really touched my heart. She had stage four cancer and so when we went to go drop the turkey off tears came down her eyes and [she] said, ‘I just want to say thank you. It’s been hard.’ And seeing that smile on people’s face is really the biggest reward you can ever receive,” Kimbrough said in the article.

“If we are a helping hand to know a family didn’t go hungry this holiday season then we know we did our job,” Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield said in the article.

The turkeys will be donated at Christ Temple Baptist Church,10628 Plymouth Road in Detroit, starting at 10 a.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis.
