Tour de Troit’s Second Annual Cycle into Spring to Raise Funds for Connor Creek Greenway

Tour de Troit’ Second Annual Cycle into Spring is expecting twice as many participants as it did last year. Last year’s event raised two thousand dollars for the Connor Creek Greenway that connects Detroit’s eastside to the Detroit River.

“We’re excited to partner with the Detroit Eastside Community Collaborative to bring attention to the city’s eastside and support the completion of the Connor Creek Greenway,” Tour de Troit Co-Director, Vittoria Katanski said. “Our non-profit strives to make cycling more accessible in Detroit by raising awareness and supporting the development of greenways and bike paths with proceeds from our events. As a result of this ride, we hope to be able to make a solid contribution to the Connor Creek Greenway project.”

Cycle into Spring will be held May 18th. The twenty mile cycling event will take cyclists from the Detroit River and will continue to Eight Mile, returning along the nine miles of cycling infrastructure that traces the original Connor Creek that links people, parks, green spaces, neighborhoods, schools and shops. Sites to see along the way include the Coleman A. Young International Airport, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, the Milbank Trail, the Chrysler Jefferson North Assembly Plant and Chandler Park.

“We are building two miles of the greenway as we speak, from McNichols to Eight Mile, and hope to show it off to the hundreds of riders that come to enjoy our eastside greenway,” said Libby Levy, Program Director for the Connor Creek Greenway. “Cycle into Spring is a great event to expose people to our hidden gem and to raise funds to help us create a great greenway for generations to come.”

Cycle into Spring will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Advanced registration is available online through May 11 and will include a T-shirt. The ride will have a police escort and a rest stop with refreshments. Slows to Go will provide a barbecue lunch. Vegetarian options are available.
