Spartan Nation has talked about their chances of landing Emoni Bates.
That talk has become reality.
Bates, who is the nation’s top ranked basketball recruit, announced a verbal commitment to Michigan State on ESPN’s Sportscenter on Monday afternoon. The Ypsilanti Lincoln junior is one of the most coveted basketball prospects in quite some time.
And this isn’t shocking.
After all, MSU men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo has been recruiting him since he was in middle school. MSU landing Bates is a major coup. Whether he will play a game as a Spartan is now the real question.
Bates drew few offers from other schools. According to 247Sports, Bates also drew offers from Michigan, Kentucky, Florida State, and DePaul. And the reason for the few offers that is many expect him to play professionally right after high school.
Thing is, that scenario is not in play right at the moment.
What is in play is that Spartan Nation just landed the 2020 Gatorade National Player of the Year. Not only that, Bates is the biggest high school recruit since LeBron James. Standing at 6-feet-9 and 205 pounds, he’s without a doubt one of the best recruits Izzo has landed.
