The Wolverine Bar Foundation and Wolverine Bar Association present the 55th Annual Barristers Ball at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel located at 400 Renaissance Dr. W, Detroit, MI 48243, on Saturday, April 16 from 9 p.m. until 1a.m. This year’s theme, “The Legend’s Ball: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” will celebrate current leaders who made contributions in the fields of local and national law. The 2016 Barristers Ball honorees are Attorney Benjamin Crump and the Horatio Williams Foundation.
“This premier event ‘ is aptly titled “The Legend’s Ball: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” says Wolverine Bar Foundation President, Randal M. Brown. “The Ball will recognize the legends of Detroit’s legal community. More important, it will highlight the significance of mentoring. In my estimation, African American attorneys have and will continue to reach even greater heights when they are placed on the shoulders of those who have come before them. Additionally, it is only through our generous sponsors, honorees and attendees that the 55th Annual Barristers’ Ball will live up to its name and become legendary.”
Each year, the Barristers Ball is attended by more 1,500 leaders and professionals from the legal, business, civic and political fields. This celebration of Southeastern Michigan’s best and brightest is the signature fundraiser for the Wolverine Bar Foundation. It commemorates WBA’S 90-plus years of commitment to diversity and excellence in the legal community of Metro Detroit. Margaux & Max, an upscale boutique in Grosse Pointe Park, is the official clothier of this highly anticipated black-tie affair. The Barrister’s Ball is open to the public event with tickets available for purchase by visiting 55th Annual Barrister’s Ball.
The Wolverine Bar Association has served the Metro Detroit Area since the 1930’s, and was created to coordinate the energies and talents of the increasing number of African-Americans admitted to practice throughout Michigan. The Wolverine Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Wolverine Bar Association, provides scholarships to area law students, creates opportunities for pro-bono services, and sponsors programs and seminars on legal issues.
