On National Donut Day, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will deliver coffee and donuts to those administering and receiving COVID-19 vaccines.
The treats will be an incentive for the community to get vaccinated on Friday, June 4. Sweets and shots will be available at both TCF Center garages and the upstairs walk-in entrance starting at 8 a.m. while supplies last.
During World Wars I and II, The Salvation Army brought hope to those on the front lines by serving nearly 9,000 cake donuts to soldiers every day amidst gunfire and bombs. This year, The Salvation Army will bring hope to those doing their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
“As the City of Detroit’s designated vaccine distribution site, TCF Center has done essential work to keep families safe and healthy,” said Major Timothy Meyer, general secretary, metro Detroit area commander and regional chief operating officer for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. ” The Salvation Army is inspired by these mass vaccination efforts and is honored to serve those who continue to serve the community during this difficult time.”
In addition to celebrating Donut Day, The Salvation Army is supporting the community during the pandemic by working with Central City Integrated Health (CCIH) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to distribute vaccines to Detroiters affected by racial and economic disparities.
