Marygrove College hosted the Aug. 27 presentation of “Passing,” a play that dissects the true ethnicity of Blacks who are often thought to be White and those who decide to “pass.”
Written by award-winning filmmaker Dara Frazier, a native Detroiter and member of the Harlem Writer’s Guild, the play tells the story of Minerva Roulhac, an orphan born in 1889. She looks White, but chooses to live as a Black person. Raised by a former slave in the Black community of Marianna, Florida, her brother ran away and decided to pass for White.
