The New Pink Pump, a Family Business

In 2014 the door to all four Pink Pump locations closed leaving room for the Kelly and Vincent Kirkwood to resurrect the brand by purchasing the intellectual property rights and opening a brick and mortar in West Bloomfield Michigan. The couple shares a collegiate background and a passion for entrepreneurship. Kelly, a former school principal knows her way around the the classroom and what it means to be lead by example. Kelly was determined to own her own business and eager to purchase Pink Pump as a way to continue to influence confidence and self-esteem in young black women. “ I was proud to be an advocate and voice for high school students and to help cultivate tomorrow’s leaders. For that very reason, I became an entrepreneur,” said Kirkwood. “I am the mother of a one-year-old girl; it is my job to empower, celebrate and build my daughter’s confidence and leave a legacy she can be proud of.”
The soft grand opening was held on Saturday, Dec. 5. On that day, Pink Pump offered special promotions including 10 percent off purchases, a shoe raffle, a chance for a lucky customer to win a pair of Detroit Pistons tickets and more. Music was provided by DJ Thornstryker, the resident DJ for the Detroit Pistons.pink_pre-grand_opening-01
Pink Pump’s inventory primarily consists of shoes and accessories with a variety of fundamental clothing pieces. Although many of the brands will remain the same as in the previous Pink Pump, the buying selection process will be completely different. Pink Pump will essentially become a retail space where both mothers and daughters can shop and find pieces they can both appreciate.
Pink Pump address:  2527 W. Maple Rd Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301. The new PinkPump.com website is live and the grand opening is planned for mid-January 2016.
