The Center for Individual & Family Counseling, Inc. Presents A Retreat For African American Men

On June 28-29, the Center for Individual & Family Counseling is holding a retreat for African American men. Presented by Dr. Pauline J. Furman Author of ‘When God Shows Up on the Couch”, Executive Director and Owner Of The Center for Individual & Family Counseling, Inc. The retreat will have seven workshops that offer an opportunity for men to engage in critical life areas to enhance themselves. The retreat will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Passionist Retreat & Conference Center at 23333 Schoolcraft Ave.

The first workshop on Friday evening following dinner will focus on mental health and removing the stigma that often stymies black men from seeking assistance. Led by Dr. Dexter Fields, a psychiatrist, the session will examine the role stress plays in our lives including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, anger management, male menopause, relationship issues and other concerns that affect men in their daily lives.

Other sessions will cover topics including physical health, improving your current employment, financial literacy, healthy relationships, substance abuse, and connecting to a higher power and the role that plays in your life.

Participants will arrive on Friday, June 28th at 6 pm. Dinner will be served before engaging in the first workshop of the evening. The second workshop will end at 10 pm. Saturday morning will begin with breakfast and a day filled with the remaining workshops and lunch. The retreat will conclude at 4 pm on Saturday.
