untitled 9Detroit’s largest youth arts festival takes place this Saturday, August 13 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.in Campus Martius Park and Cadillac Square.  The Art of Resilience Starr Summer Youth Festival will feature more than 500 young artists performing or exhibiting in music, dance, theater, spoken word, short film, and visual art.

The festival, now in its third year, is a free celebration of the strengths and talents of the city’s youth ages 6 – 20.  The event is organized by Starr Commonwealth, a social services agency that promotes positive youth development and has been serving Detroit children and families for more than 100 years.

“The Starr Summer Youth Festival showcases the tremendous talents, resilience and strengths of young people in Detroit,” said John Hollingsworth, festival director and director of communications for Starr Commonwealth. “We have more than 50 youth groups scheduled to perform or exhibit in downtown Detroit and demonstrate just how much our young people are capable of.”

Last minute entries from individual artists or youth groups will still be considered. The festival features three stages of entertainment, a youth artists market, make and take activities for children and families, information tables, food trucks, and an awards ceremony.

This year, Starr Commonwealth is partnering with ARISE Detroit’s celebration of the 10th anniversary of Neighborhoods Day. Together, the Art of Resilience Festival and ARISE Detroit! “Thank you Detroit” event will create a large celebration of youth, families and neighborhoods.
