Independent Group, Support America’s Teachers, Leads Nationwide Advocacy Activities

(Las Vegas, May 3) Support America’s Teachers, an innovative organization dedicated to elevating the nation’s commitment to those who teach schoolchildren, has established May 4-8, 2015, as Teacher’s Appreciation Week. A range of activities across the country, individual teacher thank you acknowledgements, school parking lot thank you greetings, fund raisers for teacher grants, blog posts and opinion letters to America’s newspaper editors extolling the value professional teachers deliver, teacher advocacy speeches at civic meetings, and a call for year-round volunteers in the cause, among numerous others, will be conducted during the week beginning May 4.

Tony Fountain, a founder of Support America’s Teachers and retired engineering and construction company executive, brings high energy, enthusiasm, and organizational skills to the teacher celebration. “I see the need for a dramatic shift in the value our country places on professional teachers, and at the same time a need to recognize a dangerous trend of the shrinking supply of qualified teachers.” As part of the May celebration, Mr. Fountain will be announcing scholarship awards for future teachers. He is the past president of the University of Pittsburgh African American Alumni Council.

The week’s celebration of teachers does not end the advocacy by mid-May. Recruitment of volunteers is an ongoing effort of Support America’s Teachers to encourage citizen-engagement to improve teaching and enhanced learning by the nation’s 70 million schoolchildren in public, private, charter, as well as faith-based schools.

Support America’s Teachers is independent and unaffiliated with any union, political party, or religious organization. It’s mission is to encourage the highest level of commitment and performance of professional teachers through ongoing demonstrations of support and advocacy. The organization envisions an America in which professional teachers are more valued and supported, and they in turn contribute to enhanced pupil learning for the global community’s enhancement.
