Signs of success
The strict, hard-working mentality of Thurgood teachers and staff members is paying off. As part of the district’s recent enrollment campaign, Thurgood gained more than 100 students this school year and is up 30% from 2012! “Unless it’s art-time or basketball-time, we don’t have time to play. Our staff is busy teaching and nurturing our students!” Principal Lee said.To complement its robust curriculum, Thurgood has a variety of activities including: Art, DAPCEP, Science Club, Project Seed, After-School Tutoring/Ex-tended Day Program, Summer Learning Academy, Cheerleading, Student Government, Basketball, Volunteer Reading and Business Corps partners.
The project was titled, “How Does Ocean Acidification affect Marine Flora.” Thurgood also had two first-place gold awards, three second-place gold awards and four third-place gold awards, for a total of nine gold awards and seven blue (outstanding) awards.Something you did not know…Emergency Manager Jack Martin attend-ed Thurgood Marshall! Thurgood, formerly known as Custer, is Martin’s alma mater. He regularly visits the school to volunteer.
