Takeoff From Migos Killed in Shooting

Takeoff, one-third of influential rap group Migos, killed in shooting, reports say

Takeoff, one-third of the Atlanta-based rap group Migos, died on Tuesday, November 1 in a Houston shooting incident at 28 years old, according to Variety and Billboard reports, USA Today confirmed.

Houston police reported that one person was fatally shot and two others were injured in the Tuesday incident during a private party, which Takeoff was attending.

Police, who did not identify the person who died, described him as a Black man in his late 20s, according to the article. Houston Police Lt. Ronnie Willkens said the man seemed to have been shot in the head or neck, according to the article.

Police were on the scene after 2:30 a.m. responding to reports of a shooting at a billiard, bowling location in the city where dozens of people were on a balcony outside of the location, police said.

Takeoff (born Kirshnik Khari Ball) was part of Grammy-nominated Migos, known for mega-hit 2010s songs “Versace” and “Bad and Boujee.” The group also includes Takeoff’s family members: Quavo, 31, (his uncle, born Quavious Keyate Marshall) and Offset, 30, (Quavo’s cousin, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus).

Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Takeoff grew up with collaborators, Quavo and Offset.

“I just always wanted to rap,” Takeoff said of their upbringing in a 2013 Fader interview, according to the article. “When Quavo was out doing sports, I was in the studio, what we call the bando, making music, going hard.”

“We’re not letting up, because it’s our time. We’re going to take advantage of it,” Offset told USA TODAY in 2017, according to the report. “You don’t see a lot of people having longevity, because they’re coming in fast. My grandma used to tell me, ‘You don’t want to hit fast, because you might leave as fast as you came in.'”
