For the 25th World AIDS Day, President Barack Obamaexpressed hope, proclaiming that an “AIDS-free generation is within our reach.” “Each year on World AIDS Day, we come together as a global community to fight a devastating pandemic,” the president said in a proclamation issued by the White House. “We remember the friends and loved ones we have lost, stand with the estimated 35 million people living with HIV/AIDS, and renew our commitment to preventing the spread of this virus at home and abroad. If we channel our energy and compassion into science-based results, an AIDS-free generation is within our reach.”
What is HIV? HIV stands for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a virus which attacks the body’s immune system – the body’s defense against diseases. When someone is described as living with HIV, they have the HIV virus in their body.
