Johnny Taylor, president of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, spoke with Roland Martin on NewsOne Now about the crisis HBCUs are going through to find funding and keep their doors open for students. “The reality is we are sending students home, we’re laying off faculty … so we’re impacting the markets and communities in which these schools exist and thrive or should be thriving,” Taylor said. “So it’s a real issue. How are we dealing with it? They’re buckling down. They’re laying off. They’re getting rid of work study, [and] that helped many of us get through college… It’s impacting the quality of education for institutions that were historically underfunded and are continuing to feel the effects of this.” Watch the entire clip below. SEE ALSO: Police Search For Missing Las Vegas Man, Truck Discovered Abandoned[2] The accused are basketball players Malcolm Frank, a junior from Decatur, and Chukwudi Ndudikwa, a senior from Atlanta. Both are charged with rape. Tevin Mgbo, another basketball player, is charged with kidnapping and reckless conduct, according to Fulton County Courthouse records. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports[3] that the three men appeared before a student conduct hearing on campus after the arrest warrants were issued. Lucien Kidd, of Ohio, was also charged with rape in April. Head football coach Rich Freemantold 11Alive News[4] that Kidd tried out for the team in 2010, but did not make the cut.
