Komen Michigan Partners with Komen Greater Detroit to Educate the Public and Advocate for Metastatic Breast Cancer Community

Detroit, MI – Susan G. Komen Greater Detroit will host a free Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Conference, Saturday, October 5, 2019, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., at Henry Ford Community College, in Dearborn. The informational conference will educate the community about metastatic (Stage IV) breast cancer. It will also support those living with MBC and their caregivers by highlighting viable resources for research and treatment.

Dr. Aki Morikawa, Hematology and Medical Oncology, Komen Funded Researcher, University of Michigan Breast Oncology Clinic will be one of the many speakers for the event. Along with the keynote addresses, breakout sessions will cover mental health/self-care for those living with metastatic breast cancer; caregiver support; sexuality and intimacy after a cancer diagnosis; nutrition; and managing the side effects of oncology pharmaceuticals.

At least 154,000 people are currently living with MBC in the U.S. “Although MBC can be treated, there is no cure,” said Jaye Sciullo, Executive Director. “Komen Greater Detroit and our sister affiliate, Komen Michigan, are dedicated to providing the resources needed by the metastatic community so they can best advocate for their health and well being.”

The Metastatic Breast Cancer Conference is free to those living with MBC and their caregivers/co-survivors. A $10 donation is requested from medical professionals and researchers. Registration includes continental breakfast and lunch. In partnership with Ford Go Ride, arrangements for transportation service can be made by calling (248) 234-885.
