Services To Enhance Potential (STEP), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that employs and provides support and services to over 1,300 individuals with disabilities and other mental health needs in Wayne County.

Services To Enhance Potential ribbon cutting ceremony for their third STEP Thrift Store and Donation Center (formerly Tried and True) was held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 23830 Ford Rd. in Dearborn Heights, MI.

STEP Thrift Store welcomed its community members of all ages to come and celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Dearborn Heights Mayor, Daniel Paletko and other local city officials attended the ceremony. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10-5:00 p.m.

“We are excited to further our mission by opening our third thrift store. Our success with our first two stores have provided employment opportunities that offer compensation above the federal minimum wage to individuals with various disabilities and mental illnesses,” said Brent C. Mikulski, STEP President and CEO. “We hire the individuals we serve; allowing them to earn an income, integrate in community life and learn useful real-world skills,” he continued.

The 10,934 square foot space has been completely redesigned to correspond with STEP’s updated branding efforts. It can be described as lively, bright and modern. In addition to the eye catching design, the new STEP Thrift Store will offer a variety of interactive classes for the consumers of STEP services to partake in. The skill-building courses will be offered in class like settings and will include training in the following areas: computer basics, job readiness, sewing and stress management to name a few. The classes are designed to build independent skills and provide learning opportunities. At STEP, we encourage our community members to get involved, as there are volunteer opportunities for teaching STEP classes at our new thrift store location!

All shoppers will receive an additional 25% off all purchases during the grand opening event. The grand opening will take place, Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10- 5:00 p.m. STEP’s grand opening will feature a balloon artist, face painter, food and refreshments provided by generous sponsors and organizational partners.
