State Reports Over 70 COVID-19 Outbreaks in Schools

A majority of schools across Michigan have been back in session for the fall 2021-22 semester for over a week now.

With thousands of students in close proximity (even with social distancing) it can be hard to slow the spread of COVID-19.

That fact is evident as the State of Michigan reported 71 new COVID-19 outbreaks at schools as cases continue to grow across the country, WXYZ reported.

Last week alone the state reported 31 recent outbreaks.

This is when the delta variant is surging across the state, and nation. On Monday, September 13, Michigan reported nearly 6,100 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths during a three-day period with typically 2,031 cases per day, according to the article.

According to michigan.gov, Michigan schools are working overtime to continue to maintain a safe environment while also providing quality education.

Some tried and true tips to keep students safe include:

  • Wearing a mask (covering mouth and nose)
  • Social distancing (maintaining a distance of 6 feet apart)
  • Frequent handwashing (using soap for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol)
  • Following capacity restrictions of social gatherings

The number of Michigan cases has grown to 976,505; the number of deaths total 20,535.
