The Michigan State Police (MSP) will again join forces with other state patrols to step up traffic enforcement, focusing on dangerous driving behaviors including seat belt use, speeding, aggressive and impaired driving.
Starting Friday, August 1, troopers and motor carrier officers have been patrolling along I-94 as part of the “I-94/90 Challenge” to save lives, which is a coordinated traffic enforcement initiative along Interstates 90 and 94.
“The Michigan State Police is committed to reducing the number of injuries and fatalities on the state’s roads,” said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP. “Participating in joint initiatives such as this allows states to align resources to focus on improving traffic safety. We will continue to focus on traffic safety efforts throughout the remainder of the summer.””
In addition to Michigan, states participating in the initiative include Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Earlier this month, the MSP joined five other state patrols for a distracted driving enforcement initiative as part of the 6-State Trooper Project. During that initiative, which ran from July 20–26, MSP troopers issued 67 texting citations and 77 careless/reckless driving citations across Michigan.
The MSP will continue to participate in various traffic safety efforts and initiatives throughout the remainder of the summer.
