Word has it that Sherri Shepherd, currently in the midst of a nasty divorce with Lamar Sally, has been quietly dating Johnny Gill since June.
A friend of Sherri’s says the couple met on June 25, when the singer performed on “The View,” and they’ve been quietly seeing each other ever since, according to the Daily Mail.
“Sherri is a big New Edition fan and was excited to have them at the show. But she and Johnny really connected and exchanged personal contact information,” a source at the show revealed.
Sherri and Johnny reportedly continued the relationship long distance on FaceTime.
Since then, Johnny has allegedly flown Sherri out to see him where New Edition’s All Six tour was playing.
“She flew out to see him in Houston, Virginia Beach and Los Angeles. She enjoyed being out on the road and enjoyed getting to know him,” according to the source.
While Sherri kept a tweet about her relationship with Johnny vague — she called him a “friend” — following a special date night in Houston, Johnny made his feelings for Sherri more apparent.
Johnny reportedly flew into New York City to be with Sherri when she taped her last episode of The View on July 31.
“Johnny stayed off camera because they want to keep the fact that they’re dating low key. But he was there to celebrate her farewell from the show and she was happy he was with her,” the source explained.
While this certainly seems promising, Sherri is allegedly telling friends that she wants to take things slow.
“She enjoys having a man who can actually take care of her. He picks up the check at dinner and takes care of her flights. He’s financially secure and that’s very appealing to her,” the source added.
Sherri and Lamar, who separated in May, are still in the midst of a bitter divorce battle. Lamar reportedly wants their prenuptial agreement overturned in an effort to get more money.
Furthermore, the two are also fighting to work out a settlement for the child that Sherri arranged for Lamar to have via a surrogate. Sherri, who has a son, Jeffrey, 9, from her first marriage, does not want to be involved in the child’s life.
Meanwhile, Radar Online is reporting that Sherri is also concerned about Lamar posting naked pictures of her that she took during their marriage.
For a significant portion of Shepherd and Sally’s marriage, “it was a long distance relationship,” an insider told Radar. “To keep things hot, Sherri would send naked pictures of herself to Lamar. Lamar also sent Sherri naked pics for her personal collection.”
“Sherri felt really great about her body because she had just lost a lot of weight,” the source continued. “Now, she deeply regrets sending the pictures because she is afraid Lamar will release the pictures as revenge because of the bitter nature of the divorce proceedings. Her lawyer plans on asking the judge to prohibit the release of the pictures.”
Shepherd recently offered Sally a $100,000 payout, and $3,000 in child support for a newborn son born via surrogate earlier this month.
Sally rejected the offer, and is seeking $10,000 in child support, even though the baby isn’t Shepherd’s biological child.
Shepherd is alleging that Sally wasn’t straight with her regarding the terms of the surrogacy, and his intent to sue her for child support.
If the naked pics are released, “Sherri hopes that the judge would hit Lamar with stiff financial sanctions,” the source added. “Those pictures were never meant for anyone but Lamar to see. Just because they are getting divorced doesn’t mean that should change.”
