Sharifa Alcendor has dedicated herself to ensuring the voices of underrepresented populations are heard in healthcare. With over 14 years of progressive experience in healthcare leadership, Sharifa has developed several innovative approaches to addressing social determinants of health barriers for patients and communities. This includes developing the â€ªFindMICare.org low-cost care directory with the Greater Detroit Area Health Council, creating the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) Patient Care Management & Assistance office to serve uninsured and underinsured patients, and launching a medical respite housing program for homeless and housing insecure patients to decompress hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2018, Sharifa has led the operation of HFHS’ Office of System Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and is working to develop and implement the office’s 3-year strategic plan system wide. In 2020 alone, HFHS has been recognized by DiversityInc, Forbes, the American Hospital Association and the Human Rights Campaign for creating a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Sharifa, originally from Pennsylvania, earned her bachelor’s degrees in biology and economics from Denison University and her master’s degree in health administration from The Ohio State University.
