Detroit seniors can anticipate hearing from local public safety officials about elder adult safety and tips, beginning Wednesday, July 8.
Senior Power Days is a free 11-event series that will be held every week and run through December 15. The kick-off event, Senior Safety Summit will be held on July 8 and start at 10 a.m.
“As a longtime senior advocate, I know the impact of crime against seniors throughout the region,” said Stephanie Donaldson, spokesperson of Senior Power Days and a part-time DNR employee.
Guest speakers Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and Michigan State Police Colonel Kriste Kibbey Etue will give seniors a chance to ask questions and gain insight on public policy aimed to assist seniors across the region.
“We are extremely proud to be a supportive partner in this unprecedented effort to connect Southeast Michigan’s older adults to recreational and educational opportunities in the Detroit area,” said MDHHS Aging & Adult Services Agency Executive Director Kari Sederburg. “This is such a wonderful opportunity for older adults and I strongly encourage those living in the area to participate.”
Complimentary recreational passes sponsored by Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will be given to seniors who attend the inaugural event.
