SBA accepting 2017 National and District Small Business Week Awards nominations

PITTSBURGH—The U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting nominations for its 2017 National and District Small Business Week Awards, including the annual Small Business Person of the Year. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and to our nation’s economy.
“This is a local and national honor for that small business owner who consistently helps better the community through innovation, employment opportunities and social entrepreneurship,” said SBA Pittsburgh District Director Dr. Kelly Hunt. “The 2016 Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year, Dr. Wei-Shin Lai and her husband, Jason, stitched and soldered a perfect, non-addictive aid for the sleep deprived on their dining room table. The combination of flat speakers housed in a soft, comfortable headband garnered them numerous, accolades and media attention for creating such an innovative product.”
The dedicated website www.sba.gov/nsbw/awards  provides forms, criteria and guidelines for submitting a nomination. SBA awards are given in celebration of National Small Business week which is being held April 30-May 6, 2017.
In addition, to honoring the SBA Pittsburgh District Small Business Person of the Year, the district office also is accepting nominations to recognize the following on the District Level:
Pittsburgh District Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Pittsburgh District Exporter of the Year
All nominations must be submitted no later than Close of Business, Monday, Jan. 10, 2017.  SBA will no longer be using the Small Business Week online portal. All nomination packages may only be hand delivered or mailed to an SBA Office. Email submissions of SBA Awards forms will not be accepted as they contain personally identifiable information.
