S.T.A.R. Foundation Hosts 2nd Annual "Venus vs. Mars" Red Carpet Gala

Detroit, MI – June 27, 2012 – In recognition of and raising awareness to National HIV Testing Day, S.T.A.R. Foundation along with the City of Detroit Mayor’s Office will host a community collaboration of HIV testing partnering with Wayne State University Physicians Group, Sinai Grace Specialty Care, Detroit Receiving Hospital, Youthville Detroit, and Horizon’s Project from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the following locations:

On a first-come-first-serve basis, incentives such as gift cards and bags filled with wonderful goodies will be provided to those who get tested, and this is all being sponsored by MedCart Specialty Pharmacy and BET Rap-It-Up.

From noon until 4 p.m., there will be food, fun, music, and youth testing provided by the Horizons Project, and an opportunity for youth to meet and speak with guest celebrities/public figures at Youthville Detroit.

There will be photo opportunities; four lucky young ladies will receive a makeover by “Style U Glam” and a make-up gift bag provided by Motives for LaLa. This is an effort to encourage youth (whom are sexually active) between the ages of 13 to 20 to get tested and stay protected!

In the evening, S.T.A.R. will host a *”Venus vs. Mars” discussion sponsored by MGM Grand Detroit and VMCP Inc., regarding the lack of communication in relationships that lead to unfortunate health disparities among couples, marriages, families and our community, inside MGM’s “Ignite” from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m.; sounds by Wax Tax ‘N Dre of HOT 107.5. *Must be 21+.

During this discussion, celebrities/public figures will define and reiterate how communication serves as an important part of developing and maintaining healthy sexual relationships. Among this roster, S.T.A.R. welcomes:

The S.T.A.R. Foundation’s campaign addresses the gap in service and advocacy regarding HIV and STD prevention by using popular youth culture to effectively communicate life-saving messages and promote a healthy lifestyle.
