The General Retirement System of the City of Detroit and the Detroit Police and Fire Retirement System will hold a town-hall meeting for City of Detroit Retirees on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. This informational meeting will present background information on Post Bankruptcy issues including AFS Update, ISF Results, Investment Committee, Restoration, Employee Death Benefits, RSCD Updates, Health Care Plans (GRS & P&F VEBAS) and more.
The meeting will be held from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Fellowship Chapel, 7707 W. Outer Drive, in Detroit.
Since the implementation of the March 2015 pension benefit deduction, it is estimated that about 20,000 retirees from the General Retirement System of the City of Detroit and the Detroit Police and Fire Retirement System have been affected.
“It’s important that we not only engage with our retirees but provide information about the issues that are affecting them since the POA was certified and the pension reductions have begun,” General Retirement System Spokeswoman Tina Bassett said.
“As we move forward with the post-bankruptcy process, this communication is more important than ever.”
Experts and Board members will present updates and status reports on many of the current issues along with a question and answer period. This is an informational meeting only.
